FAQs

My insurance agent says a percentage of the value of the house is enough coverage – is that right?

There is no way of knowing if that is enough insurance until you do an inventory. If you have any particularly valuable items they may increase your need for coverage, or they may take you above the cap in a certain category, such as sporting equipment or electronics. Also, you need to be aware that your insurance company will demand proof of ownership in the event of a claim.

How can I make sure I can claim everything?

The only way to make sure you can claim for the full amount owing to you, is to have a detailed inventory with supporting documentation. That means receipts, valuations, owners’ manuals and anything else that will help you to prove ownership.

Why would it be so difficult to remember what you own?

Experience has shown people that it is impossible to remember everything you have. Without a detailed inventory you will be sure to miss things that will eventually have to be replaced. Also, losing your home in a fire is incredibly traumatic and stressful. Then comes the lengthy business of rebuilding, dealing with contractors and insurance adjusters; having to buy clothes and the basic necessities of life. This is not a good time to have to remember every single thing you lost in the fire.

Can’t I just do it myself?

Documenting your belongings is quite possible yourself, with the use of a written list, a video camera and a still camera. However, it can be a time consuming project and one that’s difficult to get around to. When you work with Assets Documented, we just get it done before it’s too late!

I don’t have much, why should I bother?

Even if you don’t have valuable collections or expensive electronics, the cost of replacing everything you own would probably be higher than you might expect. And having an inventory will ensure that you really do get to claim for everything.

....Their professionalism, courtesy and attention to detail rank them as the best..
